Awkward Toys Made out of Junk and Electronics
It all started with attending to the Scrapyard Challenge which is an amazing workshop where "participants build simple electronic projects out of found or discarded junk." Since I have been introduced to this creative designing/building with scrap materials, I started to pursue this as a fun hobby.
Bar Helmet is a helmet designed for social interaction in places like bars and clubs where the communication is difficult because of loud music. It enriches the communication between two strangers in a funny and absurd way.
The communication is enabled by pushing buttons sewed on pony-tails on both sides of the helmet that pop up questions on scrolling lcd screen placed on front.
The user has a set of questions like “Can I buy a drink?” or “You look hot on dance floor. Want to dance?”... The other user can answer this with lighting green or red LED's that are located on both sides as an expression of "YES" or "NO".
Drunk Angel is inspired from the lack of balance when people get drunk. It is designed for drunk people and their friends (maybe drunk friends as well/ maybe not) to act as a warning system with vibration motors embedded into wings that are activated by proximity sensors. The wings have two proximity sensors on both sides that sense when the user is about to hit somewhere or someone, and then they send the signal to the vibration motors that flap the wings. The user can also feel the vibration on his/her back as a feedback. The flapping wings are a humorous way of decreasing the drunk person's speed when they are falling to the floor.
The wings are made up of an old found in a trash can, spray-painted and embedded in cardboard casing with proximity sensors and Arduino.
